Association Management Solutions (\"AMS\") is a fast growing, technology-focused, association management company based in Fremont, California. We have been in business for over 12 years, and serve a variety of technology organizations worldwide.
We are experiencing a period of growth, and therefore are seeking to hire a TECHNICAL EDITOR.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
AMS is seeking a dedicated, self-motivated and hard-working TECHNICAL EDITOR to join our team. The position involves performing technical editing and related functions for an online publication series that documents standards, new developments, and research in Internet software technology. This is a challenging job that has considerable interaction with highly skilled network protocol designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture.
Position involves editing highly-specialized technical materials, turning sometimes deficient English into clear and correct English prose, and checking editorial consistency using series-specific style rules.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Produces publication-ready documents.
a. Edits for clarity and consistency as well as grammar and
punctuation. Enforces Editor style guidelines for
content and format. Marks up and makes edits that
maintain editorial balance.
b. Checks documents for internal consistency as well as
adherence to specific editorial rules. Uses a variety
of automated tools and formal language processors for checking
document.
c. Interacts with authors and leadership over editorial
issues that may require their action or agreement.
d. May reformat complex tables or ASCII graphics, using
the appropriate rules for line continuation.
e. Marks up documents to publication format following
established guidelines.
f. May perform final quality control checks on a subset of
the documents to be published.
g. Interacts with authors or other authoritative persons
to create final publishable documents.
2. Updates the database and other files used for tracking, indexing,
and publishing documents.
3. Participates in discussions of editorial style
and other policy issues. Helps to keep style guide current.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
* Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures and tools.
* Ability to effectively use a computer for editing, processing,
and cataloging of ASCII text files.
* Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a
range of written material.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate
with other members of the staff, with authors, and with key members
of the Internet technical community.
EXPERIENCE:
At least 1 year experience in writing and/or editing documents with technical content. Experience with some Unix-based applications, or at least a broad range of experience with various operating systems. Knowledge limited to Microsoft software will be insufficient
EDUCATION:
Bachelor\'s degree. Combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education.
