Senior Service America Inc. (SSAI) is a nonprofit organization located in Silver Spring, Maryland. SSAI provides civic engagement and employment opportunities for adults age 55 and older through three federally financed programs: the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP); the Senior Environmental Employment Program (SEE); and the Agricultural Conservation Employment Program (ACES). Overview of the Position:
SSAI is looking for a junior writer/editor to help develop written materials that inform the public about the programs and activities of SSAI.
Principal Duties:
• Supports the communications manager and senior writer in writing a wide range of written technical and public information materials;
• Conducts research that supports the development of materials;
• Assists with proofreading and editing drafts of internal and external communications documents;
• Supports the facilitation of materials for conferences, national meetings and
other events; and
• Performs other assignments as instructed by the Communications Manager and
senior managers.
Qualification Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field is required;
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional writing and editing;
• Proficient in all Microsoft office suite programs with ability to perform
minor graphics projects – proficiency in performing tasks in a Macintosh
environment is desirable;
• Skill in proofreading to ensure high quality written products; and
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure deadlines are met.
Additional Information -
Because of the nature of this position, you will be asked to do the following:
1. Submit a current writing sample with your resume; and
2. Develop at least two paragraphs on a given topic that will be given to
you during the interview, if you are selected.
*Your writing sample will not be scored; however, it will be used by the selection panel to help assess your writing skills.
