We are currently seeking an IT Technical writer for a contract position in Las Vegas, NV
Work will be on site, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 6PM work schedule.
This is a twelve month engagement.
Position Summary:
Create and/or edit various types of business and technical documentation supporting the Information Technology Division under the direction of the client\'s IT Director.
Organizes materials and completes writing assignments according to established standards; develops, writes, edits, and maintains operational materials (eg templates, reports, flowcharts, manuals, department policies and procedures, presentations, instruction books, etc.)
Recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
May advise other professional and technical staff on the most efficient and acceptable method of presenting information in written or online format.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in English, technical writing, communications, or other field requiring research and writing skills
Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
Minimum of four years of editing and technical writing experience, with at least 3 years of experience with information technology related task-based documentation
Expert in Microsoft Suite of products and its advanced features; Word 2003 (Windows) eg, templates, styles, and tables; Visio, PowerPoint, Project and Adobe tools
Knowledge and understanding of technical writing and/or desktop publishing software (eg DreamWeaver, FrameMaker, Fullshot). Proficient in RoboHelp, FrameMaker 7, and Adobe Acrobat 8
Flexible in adapting to changing priorities, assignments, and schedules
Strong detail orientation
Desired Qualifications:
Able to analyze audience, user tasks and information needs, and translate these into information product content plans;
Able to interface with technical staff, end-users and management to document operational processes, system modifications, reference materials, presentations, etc.
Experienced in working in an IT environment.
Physical Qualifications:
Able to sit at desk for extended periods of time
Able to talk or hear; walk; stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch
Able to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Interpersonal Skills:
Effective communication skills
Able to work independently and as a team member in a team environment and take direction from IT management on project-specific tasks and/or assignments
Able to gain product knowledge from written specifications, interviews with subject matter experts, and hands-on product experience.
